We called around to our local utility companies and did some research on Painting Utility Boxes on the outside of your house.
Most houses have utility boxes installed on the exterior side of the garage. These items are often unsightly and take away from the clean look of a freshly painted exterior.
Most of these boxes are made of metal or vinyl. So which ones can you paint to help make it blend into the surface? We contacted Puget Sound Energy, Comcast, and Verizon to get their input.

Painting the Energy Meter Box
Also called electricity meter is a device that measures the amount of electricity consumed by your entire house.
This device has a meter socket, made of glass that should never be painted.
There is also the enclosure for underground service termination which is made of metal, and according the Puget Sound Energy, this box can be painted.

Painting the Gas Meter
This flow meter measures the volume of fuel consumed by your household.
Several different designs are in use today and according the Puget Sound Energy, most modern meters can be painted.
The meter reader has a clear plastic cover that should be masked off and not painted.

Painting Cable Boxes and wires
These boxes are often made of vinyl. They are designed to hide the mass of wires and distributors on the outside of your home. According to Comcast Cable (now Xfinity), these items can be painted using acrylic paints.
Painting the Network Interface Device
This box is usually located on the outside wall of your home. This is where telephone network connect to your house.
These boxes are constructed out of vinyl and according to Verizon, these items are OK to be painted using acrylic paints.
