Step 1) Wire-brush and sand to etch previous finish.

This step scratches the previous finish, allowing our primer and paint to penetrate and bond. Without proper etching, paint on a high-traffic threshold will quickly peel.

For this project, we used All Surface Metallic Satin Oil Rubbed Bronze. This fast-drying material can be re-coated within 30 minutes, minimizing the time your door needs to remain open.

Pro Tip: We recommend a high-durability metallic spray paint for thresholds because it provides a harder, smoother finish that mimics the original factory plating better than a brush-on paint.
