Sanding
Sanding is the most labor intensive part of any deck staining project. Most people, including professionals, skip this part of the job, but there is no way to produce a professional quality finish without disk sanding the deck boards. NOTE: the Makita disk sander is a powerful tool. Please use caution while handling. Sand along the grain and do your best to produce an even finish. Use a garden blower to remove sanding dust from deck surface, house, siding, plants, etc. Allow a few minutes and blow entire surface again to make sure all the dust has been removed. NOTE: while you get used to this machine, do not lock the trigger. Do not stop motion while trigger is pulled to avoid gouging deck boards.
