Room Preparation

Room preparation

We are happy to move larger objects inside the home — couches, tables, desks, etc. Furniture is often placed in the middle of the room and covered to prevent paint splatter.

We prefer not to move any items of higher value: artwork, collectibles, computers, etc. Our crew is not able to remove any electronics that are permanently attached to walls.

Note: Please remove or secure any fragile, high-value, or irreplaceable items before the project begins. We will work around permanently installed electronics.

Masking & Cover-Up

Masking and cover-up

We protect all surfaces that are not being painted. This document is your written guarantee that our workers will not slop paint on any surfaces not included in the project scope.

  • Furniture: Moved as needed and covered with painter’s plastic.
  • Baseboards: Masked with blue tape and masking paper to prevent roller splatter and overspray.
  • Flooring: Protected using drop cloth or masking paper throughout all work areas.
  • Counter tops: Masked and protected using drop cloth or paper masking.
  • Kitchen Cabinets: Covered entirely with painter’s plastic to prevent splatters or overspray.

We will remove and reinstall power outlet and light switch covers, lights, and any other hardware that can safely be removed. Washer/dryers and some refrigerators will be pulled out and pushed back once the area behind them has been painted.

Not removed: Hanging lights/chandeliers, cabinets, trim, millwork, doors, etc.

Cabinets Preparation

Cabinets preparation
  1. Remove doors & all hardware
  2. Sand all surfaces to improve primer adhesion
  3. Vacuum dust & inspect surface for imperfections; dents, scratches, etc.
  4. Using fine-finish sprayers, apply 1 coat of oil based wood primer (Zinsser)
  5. Once dry, sand primer and inspect for any flaws; dents, scratches, etc.
Why it matters: Cabinet finishes are only as good as the surface underneath. Every door and drawer front is sanded, vacuumed, and inspected before a drop of primer or paint goes on.

Oak Grain Filling

Oak grain filling

We apply 2-3 coats of wood filler (AquaCoat cabinet grain filler) to fill oak grain:

  • 3 coats on the exterior of doors and other visible areas.
  • 1 coat on the interior of doors or any other less visible area.

NOTE: While the oak grain will be entirely filled, it will still be somewhat visible.

In-Between Coats

Inspecting cabinet finish in-between coats

We inspect closely and address imperfections in-between coats. We use automotive grade bond (BONDO 907) to fill any holes, dents, scratches, or other signs of wear.

Why automotive-grade filler? Bondo sands to a glass-smooth surface and won’t shrink or flash through the final coats — the same standard used on show-quality car finishes.

Straight Lines

Machine-perfect straight lines

We employ a special method to produce straight lines that are machine-made perfect. This is a step-by-step process we use on every interior project: ceiling lines, around door and window trim, baseboard lines, and any other place where two colors meet.

Read Our Step-by-Step Process See Our Gallery of Straight Lines
Our Commitment: Every line on your project — ceiling lines, trim edges, baseboard transitions — is taped, sealed, and checked before the tape is pulled. We don’t consider a room finished until every line is perfect.

Doors: Install & Adjust

Painted cabinet doors ready to install

Roughly 5-8 business days from the start of the project, we return with perfectly painted doors. We install the doors, adjust them, and also install bumpers.

Note: Doors and drawer fronts are painted off-site in a controlled environment, then transported back wrapped in protective foam to keep the finish flawless.
