Phase 1: Precision Washing
The main purpose of washing before painting is to remove the invisible layer of pollution, salt, and debris which would otherwise mix with the paint and alter the formula. We use bio-degradable chemical cleaners to ensure the substrate is clinically clean.
Drying time ranges 1-7 days depending on temperature and humidity. We typically wash up to 1 month ahead of painting to ensure the wood is fully dry.
We take special care not to direct the washer at windows and doors, and we take precautions to prevent water from finding its way behind the siding.
Phase 2: Meticulous Masking
As part of our exterior painting quote, we guarantee that your property will be protected from any paint drips, splatters, and over-spray. We protect:
Large & Small Plants
We use multiple methods to cover and pull plants away from the surface with minimum disturbance. Small plants are protected with dedicated protectors to prevent them from being stepped on.
Roofing & Decking
Roofing material is protected using masking machines and 3M masking paper. Decks, porches, and railings are fully covered to prevent splatters.
Windows & Fixtures
All windows are masked precisely for perfect lines. Exterior lights and removable weatherstripping are taken off and reinstalled after the job is complete.
Phase 3: Treating Failed Coatings
We have developed a special treatment unique to the south-side of your home, where sun damage is most prevalent. We remove loose paint using hand and power tools to ensure a stable foundation.
Phase 4: The Role of Primer
Priming is mandatory in our damp climate. Primer acts as a sealant, improving adhesion and durability. At Elegant Painting®, we never spray primer alone; we brush and roll it to ensure proper penetration into the wood grain.
Phase 5: Expert Caulking
We seal corners, trim joints, and imperfections where moisture would otherwise penetrate. However, we follow strict standards on what NOT to caulk (such as window weep holes and the bottom of siding boards) to allow for proper air circulation and water exit.
Phase 6: The Back-Rolling Difference
Most companies just spray. We back-roll the entire siding. This method forces paint into the grain, pushing out microscopic air pockets that cause premature failure. This adds 4-5 years of additional life to your paint job.
