Color drenching in Redmond & Woodinville
We painted this fireplace wall, mantel, and lower paneling in the same color: Seaworthy. The brick stayed natural. So did the wood floor. The white ceiling and adjoining woodwork give the blue a clear place to stop.
Color drenching carries one color across walls and architectural details, often including the ceiling and doors. These two local projects use that idea selectively. They show how much you can change a room while keeping the materials you already like.

A closer look at the Seaworthy mantel
Look just below the mantel shelf. The small dentil blocks, stepped edges, and fluted sides are all visible in one color. Light catches the raised surfaces; the deeper cuts stay in shadow.
That is the appeal of this treatment on detailed woodwork. The fireplace reads as one piece, and you can still appreciate how it was built.

Blue above, natural wood below
In this Polo Club home, the color follows the upper walls and their picture-frame molding. The stained chair rail gives it a stopping point. Below it, the wood keeps its grain and warmth.
Hector is shown rolling the wall during the project. The lower woodwork and doorways are masked, and the ladder gives you a sense of the room's height.
If you have wood paneling you want to keep, this is one way to work around it.
Thinking about this for your home?
Start with what you want to keep: the brick, the wood, a light ceiling. Then decide which painted surfaces should share a color. These are the questions worth settling before the work begins.
Does color drenching include the ceiling?
A fully drenched room usually carries the color onto the ceiling as well as the walls and trim. Both projects here keep a light ceiling. Matching the wall and its woodwork gives you a partial version of the look, without committing every surface to the same color.
Should the walls and trim have the same sheen?
They can, but the paint still needs to suit each surface. A lower-sheen wall and satin trim can share a color while reflecting light differently. Compare samples of the actual products together. Sherwin-Williams has a useful example of one color in different sheens .
How do I know if a dark color will work in my room?
Our Seaworthy photographs look different depending on the camera angle and light. Check a physical sample beside your floor and woodwork, in daylight and with your evening lamps on. In a room shaded by trees, make sure you like it when the room is dim, too. A warm neutral can also work for color drenching if you prefer a lighter room.
What preparation does detailed woodwork need?
That depends on its condition and the existing coating. The estimate should address cleaning, repairs, sanding where needed, and compatible primer where required. Narrow grooves and layered molding need careful application so the paint doesn't collect at the edges and soften the details.
What affects the cost of color drenching?
The number and condition of the surfaces matter more than the color scheme's name. A ceiling, doors, crown molding, and a detailed mantel all add work beyond painting plain walls. Ask for the surfaces, preparation, products, sheens, and protection to be spelled out. We can discuss your room during an interior painting estimate .
